I love this question, Nicole! And I agree that it will certainly be an interesting day when a female-dominated profession is actually being run by…women. The same could be said for nurses and the caretaker field as a whole.
On a personal level, I’m pretty sure that the men that I’m politely ignoring have no idea that I’ve stopped communicating with them. For the most part, to use your words, they’re adding zero value to my day and I’m not bothering anymore to politely acknowledge them.
I do think, however, that men may be a bit more perceptive than I’m acknowledging here and, by that, I’m referring to the 2016 election. When we had a presidential candidate who was 1) female and 2) one of the most qualified people to ever run for the presidency, it was amazing how many men (and women!) were suddenly concerned that she might not be suited for the job. “Wait — we might not have a man leading and speaking to our country? Hold up. I’m not sure if we’re ready for that.” And so we ended up with yet another man to listen to for the next four years.
